Oct 25 @ 6:00 PM
We meet once a month to discuss the same book we’re all reading.  Those books are chosen off from a range of topics centered on Microsoft Development Technology.  We usually get between 30 –  50 members each month.  We have hosted the tracks such as – C# and .NET, WPF 4, SQL/LINQ/Entity Framework, and Javascript, Python.

To sign up for the Tech Immersion SIG – Sign up Here: http://www.meetup.com/San-Diego-Technology-Immersion-Group-SDTIG/

Members help each other overcome stumbling blocks while learning new technology.   In addition, we have mentors (experts) helping us understand all this new stuff.

We are a special interest group (SIG) of the San Diego .NET User’s Group.

Actors – The Past and Future of Software Engineering
—————————————-

The Actor Model is the latest fad to storm the software industry. But is there any substance behind it and why should you care? What are the drivers of the Actor Model and why have the large cloud vendors started offering Actor-based solutions?  Juval Lowy puts it all together first by outlining the long-term trend in software methodologies that brought to this 50-years old computational model to the fore, and how the demise of Moore’s Law coupled with the rise of the IoT will force us to abandon sequential programming. Juval will examine the origin of the Actor Model; demonstrate Actors using conceptual examples, outline emerging design patterns, point out common misconceptions and conclude with his views on the future of the Actor Model.

Networking Game
—————————————-

Part of the goal of the User Group is to promote networking among the members.  So I am challenging everyone to meet new people.  When you get your pizza, I encourage you to stay in the building lobby and talk to at least two people you have never met before instead of going to sit down in the auditorium.

Agenda
—————————————-

6:00 PM – 6:30 PM – Pizza and Networking
6:30 PM – 6:40 PM – Opening Remarks
6:45 PM – 8:40 PM – Presentation & QA
8:40 PM – 8:45 PM – Raffles

Architecture SIG Monthly Meeting
Nov 8 @ 6:00 PM

The Architecture Roundtable SIG is a group of .Net Senior Developers and Architects who participate in round table discussions and take turns presenting on architecture topics to the group.  Because of the format participation is expected and required of all attendees.  This is great place to get feedback on a design direction or to tell everyone about a cool trick you discovered.  Topics range from design patterns, to inter-process communications, refactoring and agile practices.  Bring your laptops so that you can show off that new piece of code you have just written, or participate in the language debates.

If you wish to apply to join the group please send an email to archsig@sandiegodotnet.com.
